You're not into MuseSlash? Doesn't matter! Go and take a look anyway. This piece of art is just too gorgeous to miss out on! It's called Apocalyptic Angels and shows the two guys in an emotionally intense situation - entirely worksafe.
One of rocketqueens best works in my opinion, and I'm usually not someone who goes for apocalyptic scenarios!
Go here and see for yourself!
And leave her some love!

For the first time in more than four years, I've added to Nightmare. Not just edited or rewrote portions of it. I'm adding on a whole new scene that's never seen the light of day (or dark of night, as it were). I was afraid I wasn't going to be able to get into that mindset again, but apparently, it's like putting on a pair of glasses or a pair of gloves. I think the writing is slightly different (after all, I'm slightly different than I was four years ago), but it still fits within the style of the novel. And I think the new scene (and the scene that follows it) will work well to enhance the plot a bit. And I anticipate another new scene later in the novel.
I only wrote six hundred words. My minimum was five hundred. But it was something, and that's the important thing.

I dreamed last night first that my church choir worked at the state fair, acting out a musical marauder kind of thing. My brother, as he usually is, was the musical star. He was very good, but I'm more than a little envious, so I was envious in the dream, too. I might have cried a little because I woke up with puffy eyes. I don't know.
Then I proceeded to have the most awesome curb crawling experience with Christmas decorations and wrapping paper and candles - I accidentally went down the wrong alley, and I kept telling myself to remember which one it was so that I could come back. Except then we kind of got corralled into a witch's house by following the trail of throw-aways.
I have a sudden urge to dive a Hallmark dumpster. But it's out in the open, and I get nervous still. One day... one day...

New post seen today at the V.E.N.OM. 'Can't stand Harry/Voldemort' thread:
"I took a look to the ship, had a heart attack looking at the fanarts and found this fantastic evidence for this fantastic couple: in CoS Harry and Voldie stared at each other for a long time."
Oh honey, you'd need CPR if you ever checked out the links at team_darklord!

Because Bro went back to school today, Mom's at Disney World, and Dad is helping Bro move before going to Arkansas to be with his family, I'm all alone. And I decided to go out in order to get out for a bit, not be so lonely.
I went to the nearest mall and saw Mirrors. I'll write up a review later, maybe tonight or tomorrow. Short version: It wasn't OMGwonderful! but it was pretty good. I recommend it if you like horror movies in general. It probably would have been better if a couple of tweeners had decided to see Mamma Mia! instead. God, I was about to kill them.
And I think all the tension from the movie jumpstarted my cramps, which had been oddly missing for the last 24 hours.
After the horror movie, I went to Bath & Body Works. Heh. They're having a 5 for $15 sale on their hand soaps and a buy one get one half off sale on their standard lines. And I wanted a scent treat. Right now, the only body washes I have are vanilla, and while I love vanilla, it's more of a winter scent for me. I wanted something to get me through fall and transition into winter.
Here's the $40 damage that could have been a lot worse: Warm Vanilla Sugar foaming hand soap " " waterless anti-bac foam Wild Honeysuckle hand soap (It really isn't a fall scent, but I couldn't resist) Sparkling Peach hand soap Sweet Pea waterless anti-bac foam Irresistible Apple body wash Enchanted Orchid body wash (I'm usually leery of florals, but it smelled fine when I tried it) Midnight Pomegranate travel-size body wash Rainkissed Leaves travel-size lotion (I like the smell, but I'm not sure how it'll smell on, and the travel-size lotions are good for putting in my purse in the winter.)

Cassidy and Sasha accidentally met when Bro was walking out of the guest bedroom. There was hissing and spitting on both ends. Now I realize just what a piece of work it's going to be to bring Cassidy into the house. He needs to get used to the house itself. He needs to get used to Padfoot. He needs to get along with Sasha. And Noel needs to put her big-girl pants on.
For those of you who are fellow cat ladies, how do you integrate a cat when there's this much feline enmity?
And Cassidy's still schizo, btw.

Cassidy update:
All four of us are having a devil of a time remembering to call Cassidy a he instead of a she.
He's finally come up from under the bed most of the time, although he still likes being under the night table and the rocking chair when he's resting. Bro's friend came over to help with the socializing and took Cassidy out from under the bed. There was some hissing, but then Cassidy wasn't so bad, even let me pet him and everything. And once everyone else was out of the room, Cassidy let me scratch him a bit before reverting back to form - hissing and growling. I stayed for a while anyway. The point is to get him used to me as a nonthreat.
I'd keep going in now and then through the rest of the day, and Cassidy would hiss and growl and so on, but he seemed to finally not want to be under the bed. And he ate some food. Then, near the evening, he came out for some scritches and rubbings. There was rolling over and baring of the fluffy tummy and purring for about a minute and a half. Then back to the growling and hissing. It's more like he's nervous than scared or mad, and I eventually realized that there's no real bite to it. He's mostly posturing. I could pick him up a bit without him clawing or biting. I didn't do it for long. Again, he's pushing boundaries, I'm pushing boundaries.
Before going off on a dog walk, I went in, and there were more lovings required. He was walking about and even interested in going outside the guest bedroom. There was hissing when he was finished with his attention, but it wasn't as heart-felt as before. And just a few hours ago, he was all love and no hissing. I left him as he was drinking his water.
There will probably be some hissing and growling tomorrow, but I'm very encouraged. :) And he definitely reminds me of grumpy Remus, back in the days when we did have male cats in the house.
ETA: Cassidy is schizo. Seriously.

Now I know where all the weight I've lost is coming from! My wrists! They've always been tiny to begin with (just for fun, I measured - it's a six inch wrist). And now my watch is sliding around more than usual, sometimes completely around.
Dear body, I have a checklist of the parts of me that need to lose weight. Incidentally, my wrists ain't on it. No love, me.

| New Cat on the Block |
[18 Aug 2008|07:06pm] |
We're housing a cat in the house for up to a year. Bro's friend is going off to college and is having her cats housed in the interim. Ours is Cassidy, a long-haired orange tom that looks a lot like Remus. We'll spend a week with him to see whether he'll work in this environment, but since it takes cats some time to adjust, I don't imagine we'll give him up. The real question, I think, is whether we can give him up at the end of the year.
He's a pretty thing. I'll upload pictures as soon as he stops hiding and growling. After all, he just moved, and he's bound to be cranky.
Noel is already furious that he's in the home, but I don't think she's made the connection between new cats in the house and the fact that the humans bring them in. :) I think she believes they stroll in like they own the place. I don't expect that Noel will ever like Cassidy (she is presently in my room, laying on a pair of discarded jeans). It took months before she grew basically accustomed to Sasha, and she still hates Sasha's guts. The only question is whether Padfoot the dog will treat her all right and whether Cassidy and Sasha will get along. After all, we've never introduced a cat to Sasha before. But she seems more curious than hateful, so we'll see how that goes. And of course, we have to see how Cassidy responds to them both. From Cassidy's previous experience, he'll probably be a bitch for about a week or so, but then he'll calm down a bit. ... It's weird to write "he" all the time. It's been about six or seven years since we've had a male pet in the house.
We moved him into the guest bedroom for now, to help him adjust without pressure. Unlike Sasha, he can't cockroach himself to hide under the bed, so he's just situated himself under the hanging part of the quilt.
Poor baby. :(

Prompt: voyeurism
His Duty
In nights like these Tenkuu's walls are trembling with fury, making its inhabitants loose their balance and stumble around.
The two people who are the cause of this never notice anything. The palace assumes that Touda at least suspects that they are being watched, but Tsuzuki is oblivious, lost in a world of pleasure.
If they knew, they would only move their encounters to another part of Gensoukai, leaving Tenkuu frantic with worry instead of anger.
The palace hates himself for it, but can't stop watching. Someone has to protect Tsuzuki and keep an eye on the traitor after all.

Finally finished the hospital horror story at 3620 words. It took some self-bargaining ("You can't watch the next part of Sweeney Todd until you finish this section"), but I think it's a solid story. As usual, I don't know whether it'll be good enough for the submission call. I don't know whether it's scary enough - I'm terrible at knowing these things because horror stories usually don't scare me, with very few exceptions. I mean, I love the genre, it's just my thing, but that doesn't mean it scares me.
Anyway, I'll set it aside for a few days, then come back to look it over and make whatever changes are necessary. I already know it'll need a few cuts, although I'm in the word count range. I also think I need to add some tension early on, and I need to enhance the sinister atmosphere near the end.

i. My Diet Big Red is talking to me. It's like the Rice Krispies of sodas.
ii. My horror short story (working titles: "Invalid" or "Second Childhood," but I think the second one gives too much away) is coming along slowly but nicely. As soon as I read a few recced fic, I'll start writing again. Two hours a day. I'm committed to it.
iii. My brother's going back to school in a week. I'm actually missing Trinity now.
iv. I think I'm at a plateau when it comes to walking. I need to talk to my dad about an elliptical machine, especially since he wouldn't be averse to having one in the house for his use as well. Not only would I get a better workout, but I could probably eat a little bit more, and I wouldn't feel so guilty every single time I go out to eat at Italian restaurants and La Madeleine.
v. cf_writing (at livejournal) has a flash fiction (and nonfiction) prompt up for those with writer's block - think queerditch_pub, which I miss. The community is not aggressively (or antagonistically) childfree, barely comes up. It's mostly just a place where people who don't have to worry about children in their lives can congregate and talk about writing.
